Neighborhood Spotlight: Good Neighbor

Good Neighbor Oakland

I am always seduced by this store. It is full of clean beauty holy-grails, small batch personal care items, vintage clothing (specially curated by nearby Mercy Vintage), cozy pieces to make your house feel like a home, and jewelry adornments for any budget.

Just one wall of Good Neighbor’s personal care offerings, including Goldies, Salt & Stone, Suntegrity, Nopalera (100% vegan!), Esker, Indie Lee, and Pink Light.

I am physically and mentally unable to go into Good Neighbor and not want something.

My self-restraint has been tested numerous times by this store. If it’s not a bottle of some deliciously, earthy body oil (ahem, Everyday Oil), it’s a pendant; if it’s not a pendant, it’s a linen scarf; if it’s not a linen scarf, it’s a pair of vintage Levi’s. You get it. There’s something here for all of my moods (and my alter egos such as Cool Girl Who Wears Cool Eyeshadow and my famous Gal Who Can Wear Jewelry Because She Is NOT Allergic To Metal).

Kindness goes far.

Perhaps of equal importance to their wonderfully alluring selection is how absolutely kind everyone is at Good Neighbor. I have never been treated with anything but warmth and respect here. You know how sometimes you feel insecure about asking questions or wanting to see a piece of jewelry from a case? That insecurity is melted away almost instantly and you feel welcomed to ask questions or to browse in peace.

Careful curation.

My favorite part of about this store is that you can tell everything they sell is something they themselves would recommend or that they use themselves. There is a wonderful comfort in that.
